Our modern ideas about the world and our place in it were largely defined by the creation of the United Nations in 1945, but the UN may not have existed without the Atlantic Charter. The Atlantic Charter was an agreement between American President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Britain's Prime Minister Winston Churchill, signed in 1941, to outline a vision for post-war peace. The charter combined elements from FDR's Four Freedoms and Churchill's London Declaration.
